Children's Holiday Bible Club 2009

Heaven's Kitchen

Our annual children’s holiday club took place during August and the theme this year was ‘Heavens Kitchen’. The children looked at some stories from the Bible that centred around food. The stories each day were told from the perspective of a mouse called Marty. Marty was at all the stories, hidden in the background, but aware of what was going on. He shared what he had seen and heard and learnt with the children each day.

The club for primary age children ran each afternoon and the children were involved in singing songs, making crafts, playing games and hearing Bible stories. During the week the children made some kitchen related crafts and also enjoyed making food items to eat on some of the days. Numbers were variable each day but around 60 different children attended during the course of the week.

A team of young people from other parts of Scotland under the Baptist Union of Scotland’s ‘Step Out’ programme helped members of the local church. Most of those are students ranging from 14 to 23 years old.

Pastor Hamish Wishart said of the club ‘It has been a wonderful success once again and it’s great to see the children really enjoying themselves. The young people on the Step out team have done a great job and it has been good that the children have been learning stories from the bible from a young age and having fun whilst they have been doing that.’

In the evenings a youth café was organised for the Primary 7 to S3 age group. Many came and enjoyed playing the Wii, Singstar, Dancemat, old fashioned board games and twister. They also enjoyed hot chocolate and crisps. The Step Out team played some team games with them and shared a drama and music video which spoke of God’s amazing love for them all.

Graeme Hamilton the church’s new full-time youth worker also took part in the week and his comments sum up the week ‘It was a great week. Brilliant to see so many children and young people enjoying the activities and learning something that we hope is of value to them. A big thanks to all who took part and who supported the week, helping to make it such a success.’
