Below you will find Cornton Baptist Church's Statement of Faith.
DECLARATION OF PRINCIPLE OF THE UNION
The basis of the Union is:
1 that the Lord Jesus Christ our God and Saviour is the sole and absolute authority in all matters pertaining to faith and practice, as revealed in the Holy Scriptures, and that each church has liberty, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to interpret and administer His laws;
2 that Christian baptism is the immersion in water into the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, of those who have professed repentance towards God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, who died
for our sins according to the Scriptures, was buried and rose again the third day; and
3 that it is the duty of every disciple to bear witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to take part in the evangelisation of the world.
STATEMENT OF FOUNDATION VALUES OF THE CHURCH
1 We believe that there is one living and true God, who eternally exists in three persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
2 We believe God is sovereign in all things: in creation, revelation, redemption and final judgement.
3 We believe the Bible, as originally given, is the inspired and infallible word of God. It is the supreme authority in all matters of belief and behaviour.
4 We believe that since the fall, the whole of humankind is sinful and guilty, so that everyone is subject to God’s wrath and condemnation.
5 We believe in the full deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of God; his virgin birth and his real and sinless humanity.
6 We believe in the atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross: dying in our place, paying the price of sin and defeating evil, so reconciling us with God.
7 We believe in the bodily resurrection of Christ, his ascension to the Father, and his reign and mediation as the only Saviour of the world.
8 We believe that salvation is God’s act of undeserved mercy, received solely by trust in Him and not by man’s own efforts. We believe that those who repent and believe in Christ are pardoned all their sins and are accepted in God’s sight because of the righteousness of Christ credited to them.
9 We believe that the Holy Spirit alone makes the work of Christ effective to individual sinners, enabling them to turn to God from their sin and to trust in Jesus Christ.
10 We believe that the Holy Spirit lives in all those who have been regenerated, and that He is an abiding helper, teacher and guide. We believe He produces in them an increasing likeness to Christian character and behaviour, and empowers them for their witness in the world.
11 We believe in the Church, a living spiritual body of which Christ is the head and all true believers are members.
12 We believe in the future personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ to judge everyone, to execute God’s just condemnation on those who have not repented and to receive the redeemed to eternal glory.
